Best Foot Forward

Lovely to see our guests heading out armed with walkingboots, maps and flasks this morning...even better when the day's forecast is for blue skies & sunshine!

If you prefer walking in company, and perhaps with a guide, then you may well be interested in the Anglesey Walking & Cycling Festival. This annual event has grown & grown, and now encompasses 50 walks and 11 cycling events, as well as a full & half marathon walkathon across two weeks.

The great thing is, instead of having your nose buried in a map or guidebook, you can be enjoying all the sights and sounds, with the benefit of a knowledgeable guide....and no getting lost!

These walks in particular caught my eye this year:

The Llanddona Circular – An 8 mile walk round this wonderful corner of the Island takingin beaches, hidden paths, an Iron Age hill fort and panoramic views (on a clear day you can even see the Isle of Man!).

Otters & WaterVoles – A leisurely walk through Malltraeth Marsh on Anglesey's west coast looking for signs of Otters & Water Voles, where you can learn about these shy creatures and their habits.

Newborough Warren& Llanddwyn Island Nature Reserve – Just down the road from The Outbuildings, not only are the forest, beach and island beautiful, not to mention the views across the Straits to Snowdonia, the Reserve is also home to an important sand dune system. The Senior Reserve Manager will lead this 4 mile walk providing an insight into how the sand dune system and its plants and animals have evolved through constant change and what is beingdone to manage & protect it.

The Isle of Anglesey Walking & Cycling Festival takesplace from 17th May to 1st June. Click here for further details and a full itinerary.
